Ladies of the J. Pechauer NorthEast Women’s Tour (JPNEWT) Supports Local Tournament

This past weekend The Ladies of the JPNEWT were out competing in the Women’s Maryland State 9-Ball Championship.

On the Hill Productions’, Tournament Directors Loye Bolyard and Beverlee Dillow host 8 ball, 9 Ball, and 10 Ball Maryland State events each year. However, this was the first-ever Women’s only Maryland State tournament and the Ladies of the NEWT were excited to participate. The tournament was held at Brews and Cues on the Blvd. This was a Fargo-rated Handicapped tournament with Texas Express rules.

The JP NorthEast Women’s Tour was well represented at this event, 14 of the 30 women in the event were Ladies of the JPNEWT. It was so great seeing so many women come out and play. There were women from all over the country participating in this event.  Most of the women were from the DMV area, however, there were many others from New York, New Jersey, West Virginia, and even all the way from California. The competition was fierce all day.

In the end, one our very own JPNEWT Lady’s were victorious.

Nicole Nester went undefeated and captured the prestigious title of Women’s Maryland State 9-Ball Champion!!! Nicole played fantastic all day, never losing focus and dominating the field with scores of 6-2, 6-3, 6-2, 6-1, 6-1, and 6-0. Congratulations on your victory Nicole, you worked hard and truly deserve it. We cannot wait to see you in action on the tour this year.

Coming in 3rd place and also playing fantastic all day was Eugenia Gyftopoulos. Eugenia is ranked #31 on the WPBA. She had a very strong showing this event with match scores of 6-4, 6-2, 6-2, 6-2, then a loss to Nester 6-2 and Malm 7-1. Congratulations on your 3rd place finish. We wish you the best of luck on the WPBA tour this year.

Colleen Knauff-Shoop took 4th place in the event. Colleen suffered an early 2nd round loss to KTWO, but she did not let it get her down! She then ground through the B side, with match scores of 6-2, 6-3, 6-4, 5-2 before meeting KTWO again and getting her payback with a score of 6-3. Colleen then fell short to Malm 7-3. Congratulations on your 4th place finish you absolutely worked for it. Your determination and preservation are an inspiration. It’s nice to have you back playing with us, we missed you!

Colleen Knauff-Shoop

5th/6th place was captured by Kelly Daniel and KTWO Yu. Both women are newer to the JPNEWT and have been working hard these past 2 years, playing in higher-level tournaments and practicing often. This was the first time these women cashed in a singles tournament, and it was a huge milestone for both of them. The Ladies of the NEWT are proud of both of you.
